Negative result but did i test to early?

i went to my doctors today and got a blood test done yesterday. the result was negative but i would only be 4 weeks and 5 days. my period is only 9 days late and i experienced implantation bleeding. the doctor says he thinks i could be pregnant and gave me a hpt and another blood test referal he said i should have waited 2 weeks for the blood test. and i could get it done next week, ive had all the symptoms and never had an irregular period. does anyone have anything similar that happened to them?
